So you’re looking forward to having an amazing trip to Boti falls and the umbrella rock? you’re on the right page. I’ll tell you all you need to know below to make your trip awesome.

How to get there

If you’re in Accra and want to use a public transport, pick a “trotro” from Madina to Koforidua, you can also get trotro to Koforidua from Accra, Tema station. Alight at the last stop in Koforidua and continue the journey with another bus to Agogo. Let the driver know you will alight at Boti junction and you’ll be there in less than 30minutes after taking off from Koforidua.
If you’re driving, download google map, input Boti falls on the map and follow the directions. Be sure to pass through Mamfe, Koforidua, Huhunya to get to Boti. Please avoid speeding and overtaking on the road (it’s a narrow and winding road).

The stubborn rocky pathway we hiked to the umbrella rock … careful guys careful

Both the Boti falls and the umbrella rock are located in the same area in Boti, Yilo Krobo district in the Eastern region. Walking to the Boti falls takes only 5minutes where as hiking to the umbrella rock takes 45minutes in and 45minutes out, Same walking distance as the Wli water falls. Come dressed like a hiker or wear something comfortable. You can decide not to walk and use a car instead. It’s your choice… There are lots of things to see and learn on the way if you choose to hike tho. Just a hint.

With one of the guides, he’s a very nice guy

It cost Ghs6 for Ghanaian adults like myself and Ghs3 for those less than 18years. Foreigners are to pay Ghs15 as adults and Ghs10 for ages below 18. Photographers attract an additional cost of 30 or 100cedis. An extra Ghs10 for a tour guide for 1 to 50 people.

We just had to stand, take pictures and admire the beautiful sight of nature because it wasn’t a good day to swim in the pool of water neither could we go beyond the tree you see on the right.

Swimming in the water is allowed but it’s not advisable to swim during the raining season, especially  if it rained a day before because the volume of water increases. The guides will let you know if it’s safe to swim.

The right fall is a male and the left is a female.

The flowing height of Boti falls is 30.3km and the force of gravity is 9.2 which can generate electricity during the raining season. you’ll be told more at the location.

There are 250 steps you’ll have to descend to arrive at the falls.

One can use in total of about an hour and 45 minutes to hike to the umbrella rock, the 3 headed palm tree and back to the Boti falls depending on your speed.

Ooo before I forget, there’s no mobile network to make calls so don’t expect much. on here

Yes trotro and guides will be available. Mind you, there’s no straight trotro to Boti falls, you have to take a trotro to Koforidua and continue from Koforidua to Boti.

Since we’re out of the raining season there will be an average volume of water until it starts drying out in January to end of February due to harmattan. 25th is a Christmas day so I can’t be too sure if
Boti falls will be opened but I can assure you from the 27th of Dec. Sorry for the late reply Raj. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Hey April, thanks a lot for all the information about the trip! How long does it take to take the troto from Accra to the waterfalls and is it advisable to make a daytrip to Boti Falls, Umbrella Rock and the Akaa Falls? Is all that makeable in one day?

    • April 21 September, 2018 at 22:15 Reply

It took about 2-3 hours drive, yes it’s absolutely possible to do all 3 attractions in a day because they’re not distant from each other.

How far is Boti junction from the falls? Thinking about taking my mother there and not sure how long of a walk we should plan for.

    • April 18 December, 2018 at 19:40 Reply

The junction to the reception is only a minute walk, and from the reception to the falls is also about 7mins walk. From the reception to the umbrella rock is about 30-45mins hike. You can take your mum to the waterfalls, I’m sure she can.
